2007 Montana State Indoor Pistol Championship

April 21-22, 2007
The 2007 Montana Indoor Pistol Championship was fired in Billings and Great Falls on the 21st and 22nd of April.  With 23 shooters we had a good turnout.  Nick Mowrer of Ramsey handily defended his title by winning the conventional pistol portion with a fine score of 860 27X beating out second place and 1st Master Don Strom.  Kent Stoddard posted the 1st Expert score of 840 18X.  Steve Madsen is working on his next classification card by posting an 832 17X for 1st Sharpshooter.  Dan Johnson’s new card came in the mail the following week after he took most of the spots in the Marksman class.  High Lady was won by Lauren Brester of Bozeman.  You boys are going to have to watch out for Lauren – she can shoot!

All the hot young shooters let one of the old guard, Lew Muller, take the title in Standard Pistol.  1st Master was Alan McRae of Glendive.   Don Strom took the 1st Expert spot while Seth Berglee, Billings, and Gail Trueblood of Cody paced the Sharpshooters and Marksman.

Nick Mowrer came back to his form for the Air Pistol edging out Seth Berglee for the title.  Lauren Brester was 1st Sharpshooter and High Lady with her find score.  Dan Johnson took the Marksman class.

The winning team was Yellowstone Gold consisting of Lew Muller, Kent Stoddard, Darrell Johnson, and Steve Madsen.  Second place (Yellowstone Silver) team members were Seth Berglee, Tom Love, Dan Johnson, and Dan Kavanaugh.

Yellowstone Rifle Club and the Ed McGivern P&R Club would like to say thanks to all who attended, and to the volunteers who pitched in to make this championship a success.  The full results are posted HERE.  Congratulations to the Champions!

2005 Curtis Magruder Memorial 2700 Pistol Tournament

August 6, 2005
It was a hot day and some pretty hot scores were fired as well.  Gary Van Haele, the eventual winner only dropped one point on the 25 yard line with the .22 to shot a 873-42X.  Gary was the match winner with a score of 2591-108X.  First Master was Lew Muller - 2509-63X; First Expert was Jim Pedersen of Cody, WY - 2488-48X; First Sharpshooter was Kent Stoddard - 2436-49X; and First Marksman was Steve Madsen - 2292-43X.  The full results are available here.

2005 MONTANA STATE INDOOR PISTOL CHAMPIONSHIPS

April 16-17, 2005
Nineteen shooters from around the state and Wyoming attended the state championships held here at the YRC.  Although, the scores were not too high this year they certainly were close.  The Indoor Championship came down to a tie breaker. After consulting the rule book the tie was broken using all three of the rapid fire scores.  Then it was decided - by ONE point!  So, Lew Muller is the new Champ with one of the lowest scores of the modern era.  Sorry Erv.  Erv Rotering of Helena was First Master,  First Expert was Scott Wehrmann of Kalispell, First Sharpshooter - Scott Burnett of Cut Bank, and one of our new shooters Steve Madsen took the First Marksman award.  Gail Trueblood of Cody took the High Lady honors.
Gun and ammo problems kept the scoring low for the International Standard Pistol also.  But once again Lew was able to put just enough points on the board to take the championship over First Sharpshooter Nick Mowrer of Ramsay.  Nick is an up and coming junior shooter with a bright future in shooting ahead of him.  Matt Egloff of Butte was one of the fellows with some gun problems, but still secured the First Expert spot.  Scott Wehrmann was the high Marksman, and Gail was once again High Lady.
Lew did better with the air pistol, shooting a 553-8 he handily took the top honors.  Matt Egloff of Butte took second place and First Expert, Darrell Johnson of Billings took First Sharpshooter, while Michelle Everett was First Marksman and our High Lady.  Michelle is a very good junior shooter from Belgrade.
The Yellowstone Rifle Club thanks all who attended.  Doug Schlepp once again did a masterful job as our Range Officer. Sandi Muller also did an excellent job as Statustion in spite of help from her husband.  We also had a dedicated group of scores!

2005 NRA OPEN INTERNATIONAL SECTIONAL PISTOL CHAMPIONSHIP

February 19-20, 2005
The International Sectional Pistol Championship was attended by twelve shooters from around the state.  We even had a team of Junior Ladies in attendance from the Gallatin Valley.  The match was fired over two days with the first relay firing on Saturday and the second relay firing on Sunday.
Competition started with Free Pistol each morning.  Nothing like sixty shots of  high precision slow fire to start the day!  Lew Muller took the Gold and team mate Kent Stoddard claimed the Silver while the Bronze went to Nick Mowrer or Butte.  Darrell Johnson was 1st Sharpshooter, Nick's team mate Matt Egloff was 1st Marksman, and the third member of the team from Anaconda, Dick Miller was 2nd Marksman.   The Free Pistol Team match was won by the YRC Pistol Team made up of  Lew, Kent and Darrell.
After a short break the shooting recommenced with the Standard Pistol Match.  This time Lew and Nick won the Gold and Silver medals, and Matt Egloff or Butte took the Bronze.  1st Sharpshooter-Marksman was Dick Miller with Darrell Johnson winning 2nd Sharpshooter-Marksman.  The Anaconda Pistol Shooters - Matt, Nick, and Dick - won the Standard Pistol Team match.
After lunch we all moved to the ten meter line for the Air Pistol Championship.   Lew added to his collection of Gold with another win.  This time Matt outshot his teammates for the Silver leaving Nick to collect the Bronze.  Looks like a lot of medal was returning to the mining city.  Darrell was in the hunt winning 1st Expert-Sharpshooter.  Dick was also in there taking 1st Marksman honors.  There were a total of five juniors shooting in the Air Pistol competition.  Seth Burglee of Billings was Hi Junior and Michelle Evertt of Belgrade took the Hi Lady spot.  The YRC Pistol Team returned to the winner's circle in the Air Pistol Team match.
Full results are available here.  We would like to express our thanks to our Range Officer - Doug Schlepp and Statistical Officer - Sandi Muller.  Thanks to all who attended.

January 2005 Indoor Pistol Tournament

January 22-23, 2005
Our first match of the year was a great success with eighteen competitors attending.  Scott Wehrmann and Tiffany Marshall got the long distance trophy - all the way from Kalispell!  The long drive didn't hurt their shooting any, though.  Tiffany was high lady and Scott made a clean sweep of the Sharpshooter class, very nearly winning the tournament.  Looks like Scott will be in the Expert class soon!  We were pleased to have five shooters come from Cody.  It was a close match with six shooters within six points of each other when the weekend was over.

2004 Curt Magruder Memorial Pistol Tournament

July 24, 2004
It was a great day for a pistol tournament, and Wes McArtor from Cody returned to the YRC with his winning ways.  He fired a 2606-124X to edge out Stu Smith who shoot a 2598-100X.  First Expert was Lew Muller with 2571-71X.  First Sharpshooter was Kent Stoddard shooting 2434-43X and First Marksman was Hank McFarlin with 2330-42X.  Full results are here as a PDF file.

2004 YRC Regional Pistol Championship

June 19, 2004
We had a little rain and cool weather, but no wind for some very nice conditions.  Wes McArtor thought they were just fine as he shot to the win with a very good score of 2642-122X.  Wes just moved from Kansas to Cody, WY, and claimed he was still sore from moving.  He might have started a new training method!  Second place and First Expert was won by Lew Muller shooting 2516-66X.  Dean Crabb from Vale, OR was third with 2460-57X.  First Sharpshooter was won by Scott Wehrmann from Kalispell - 2432-46X.  Dan Kavanaugh, another YRC shooter took the First Marksman position with a score of 2108-20X.  The YRC Team made up of Lew Muller, Kent Stoddard, Dick Kostkas, and Dan Kavanaugh, swept the teams events.  Wes McArtor took the Gold place medal in the CMP Leg Match, but the happiest one was Scott Wehrmann who was high non-distinguished for ten points.  Congradulations to all the shooters - everyone won something!
A special thanks goes to Doug Schlepp for doing an excellent job as Range Officer,  and to Sandi Muller in the Stat Office.

2004 Montana State Indoor Pistol and Air Pistol Championships

April 17-18, 2004 - Great Falls, Montana
Six shooters from the YRC or waiting list shoot in the State Indoor Championship at Great Falls.  This is the best showing of YRC shooters at an out of town match in quite a few years.  Not only was the club represented in quantity, but quality as well with most of our shooters placing well in the standings.  Congradulations to the new state indoor Champions - Stu Smith in Conventional Pistol and Lew Muller in Air Pistol.
